Bill, I've done this several times before. It can be a bit tricky if you don't read through all the documentation, but Samba has some examples on their site that walk you through the process. http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html There are GUI's available for various tasks. Basically, you get all the functionality of a Windows NT 4 PDC. No Active Directory as of yet. But you can use NT 4 tools for managing users and groups. You can also setup system policies, though no group policies.

Samba is working on version 4 which is supposed to give you Active Directory, but it's still in alpha stage. They claim what is finished is stable, it's just all the features aren't finished yet. http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4
